Resilience in Digital Heritage: Research at the intersection of technology, history and design

Date: 22 June 2021 – Tuesday  - 5pm – 10pm (GMT +3)

Youtube event link: https://youtu.be/LJqyc2i4eRo

Recent developments in the field of architectural heritage present novel contributions at the intersection of history and technology where a new form of convergence between arts and sciences is taking shape. With the integration of diverse computational tools, research in digital heritage has begun to formulate keen questions on both theoretical and technical aspects of the study of historical buildings, structures, and ornaments. Methods ranging from photogrammetry, computational analysis, digital processing, and algorithm development have been combined with a reinterpretation of historical and theoretical texts to propose new ideas on mathematic, aesthetic, formal, and symbolic aspects of diverse cultural structures. This comprehensive understanding of digital heritage has the potential to both redefine rules and principles for the geometry and construction of historical structures and accumulate data and knowledge for the preservation and revitalization of traditional design elements for their contemporary use. This form of “resilient” architecture will be the topic of this symposium that aims to address current advancements in the field of digital heritage by bringing together contributions from scholars in diverse fields of expertise.

In this online symposium, scholars will present their current research in the field of architectural design/heritage research by introducing different theoretical, methodological, and computational formulations on selected topics. There will be 30 min presentations on current approaches followed by group discussion.
